They had 5000 people fill out a survey. They asked them if they downloaded stuff illegally then asked them if they would be willing to pay full price for the last thing they downloaded.

From that they calculated "willingness to pay".

The fact that they chose not to buy the thing in the first place however shows exactly how willing they were to pay.

Kinda dumb study but whatever.

if they couldn't download what they downloaded, their answer might be different, so....VERY dumb study, I'd say.
