Actually "make printing a subscription."

Fuck you HP for the arrogance to think you have the right to bind my rights to your whims. Make your product excel in utility and I'll use it, else I'll solve my needs elsewhere.

Buy a Brother printer and improve your quality of life.

HP has been building trash products for decades. Stop feeding the assholes.

As for the "security" issue, this wouldn't be a problem if the god damn cartridges didn't have the capability to talk to the printer in the first place. Not ever tech part needs a fucking chip.

Buy Brother products. Theyre fantastic

Then I must congratulate him, as he has already succeeded, at least with me as I haven't purchased any of their shit since the late '90s.

I love that they have no changes to the printer models except the ability to disable the printer when a new Microsoft windows version comes out. Oh M$ made you upgrade your OS? Sorry, you need a new printer now.

Brother all the way.

Why are they pretending it's a security thing? They've been pretty open about wanting everyone to get the subscription ink service when they buy an hp printer. And those ink cartridges can go for years and never "dry out". Funny how that works.

The real crime here is that hp sells ink cartridges directly to consumers that are complete trash compared to the ones in the ink subscription program.

Any printing engine design that allows executable data backflow from the ink supply is heinously irresponsible and outright bad. IMO it's a flimsy excuse along the lines of "think of teh children."

It's a bullshit excuse for an asshole business model name by an arrogant prick running a has-been company.

Yeah, I doubt there is any actual security vulnerability here unless they've deliberately baked one in for a 3 letter agency.

This company continues to exist despite it's best efforts to fail. It's really just name recognition at this point. The only good thing I have to say is that I know a surprising number of rational adults that prefer to pay a few dollars a month rather than worry about buying ink cartridges. I csn understand that convenience. Give them enough time, and I'm sure hp will find a way to screw that up also.

ink cartridges can go for years and never "dry out".

My experience is the opposite, the little jets getting clogged if not used for a few months. I switched to laser, with toner that is inherently dry.

Because that's the most popular excuse for every other company. I think apple may have actually been the start of this trend.

To me it seems like a lot of companies are jealous about the insurance industry's business platform. Sell fear to get people to accept things that are actually not in their best interest.

So HP made printer cartridges so complex they consider that interface a security hole so big it could turn your printer into a botnet node? Definitely avoid HP.

I love that my HP printer won't print a low quality print job in black and white because it doesn't have yellow...thanks HP.

Be this guy: https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/abrcu/every_time_i_run_out_of_ink_i_just_buy_a_new/

Buys a new printer when it runs out of ink.

Side note, I had one of those Epson Ecotank and had to toss it. The pipes from the ink well to the print head can get clogged, making the printer worthless unless you know how to fix it.

I do and I've cleaned mine twice. Prints like brand new. It is more common with infrequent printing, which is unlikely to be the case if using a lot of ink is your problem. Best deterrent is to create a single page document with a colored box for each of the inks and print that at least once per month.

I print things like once every few months. I am back on a Canon cartridge. Once these retail cartridges I'll buy another refill kit.

Yeah, I have periods like that. It's an awkward spot that doesn't fit the EcoTank well. My wife shares this printer use with me and prints by the ream. I'd go broke were it not for ink by the bottle. I usually use Epson ink but this last set is off brand. Works fine, though.
