Chinese created or modified hardware is a yuge problem. In the early 2000s they bought up a ton of linksys routers, modified em, then sold em as new on ebay. They wound up in enough IT depts across multiple companies to really steal some massive amounts of IP etc. It went undetected b/c they left the software alone and used a hardware modified solution on the actual board.
