It had a massive shill campaign to kill open source Mumble and to kill Teamspeak. That's why discord chat rooms are called servers, because people would spend time setting up their own Mumble servers and it was a little bit of a pain in the ass if you didn't have a VPS, and you could just go into Discord and type in a "server name" and "have your own server." It really started out shady as shit with a ton of money shilling it all over the internet. Something that could basically kill Mumble, Ventrillo, and Teamspeak basically over night is not organic at all.

The fact that it's full of pedos and groomers doesn't help much either.

Discord always seems to come up when a pedo has images.

There was a big thread on oldvoat about one member of the trust and safety team, a furfag called allthefoxes, who adamantly advocated for posting furry cub porn, which is just drawn cp - often with the subject matter in positions that would harm the subject if said material were real. Said furfag was removed from employment - not because Discord prohibits it, but because there was such a big stink made.

Post any material from the Weimar period that portrays people in a bad light, even if it's photographic evidence, and you'll get your account banned quicker than you can say B&.

On a scale of 1 to kiked, it's completely kiked.

This is what I imagined and I've heard stories about pedo crap, but never looked it up. The reason why I'm asking is that on twatter a lot of "based NS girls" with AI profile pics are trying to get people to join "NS" discord servers. It immediately raised my suspicion.

After using it for a bit - and deleting my account - it seems to me it's a very thin veneer of actual use-cases (technology discussion, IRC replacement, gaming chat) over a very large cesspool of porn, pedophilia, and jewery.

Considering all that, and the fact that Telegram exists, it's extremely likely that all these based "NS" discord channels are feds and fools who fell for it. Telegram is far from perfect, but nowhere near as bad.

I view it strictly as a one way service. I use it (in a private browser tab) for niche stuff, tech support, and the like but I only take data out of it. Only input enough info to have your question answered then delete it afterwards.

Be VERY careful with the info you share in discord. A few years ago a discord employee was caught leaking private chat info to Antifa to dox people.

Oh and don't use it for voice comms. Either use in game voip or just get a small team speak server. You can still get them and they're super cheap. No need to potentially expose your voice chats to whomever discord decides should hear them.

This sounds about right. I keep in touch with some old voat friends and use it for tech support because unfortunately for most projects they only use it anymore.

I hate how it's largely killed off forums. Now you can't find results in a web search, you have to search using the company's support discord and hope they at least archived the old shit that used to be on their forums.

Yeah. It's brutal. The hoop jumping some of them do before you can even access their chats is stupid, too. I certainly don't want to explain myself when looking for support. So often people say 'why would you want to do that? Just do this'. I don't want to have to explain my set up or my thinking, I'm just looking for an error message or a particular config. I don't want to justify myself to some jerk just to find something.

Very. Content wise is all about what servers you join. So you can go full 1488 or full child diddler.

Service wise, they spy, share info, all the usual unsavory shit.

I only keep it around for the occasional need of voice chat in games. I never use it for actual social media uses
