I understand the part where they are used for categorization - you click on a hashtag and you get all the posts that have that hashtag, but how can they be utilized, for example to reach more people, or what would be the benefit of creating your own hashtag and getting it to go 'viral' or whatever you kids are doing these days.

It's about creating your own bubble with people that think like you. Before Jewlon took over, it was used to form consensus. It is partly why they think their ideas are so popular...ignoring all the bots and fakeness of twatter.

That part simply is the platform. Twatter is just like a crowd of people, apparently with too much time on their hands. Bluesky is the same thing as Twatter, but with a lot less people. Actually, Bluesky is mostly mentally insane people. So, if you're someone who needs attention, you can pick the audience you want to reach. Your hashtag becomes your identity. You can promote your hash tag in different ways. Tucker Carlson does this, as well as other bloggers.

What's a twatter hashtag?

A word with a pound symbol before it, e.g. #hitlerwasright. I think Twatter used to allow searching by hashtag.
