Plants are intelligent, but they are not sentient. Just like computers. They're intelligent, but not sentient.

Bacteria are intelligent; in the presence of penicillin, some bacteria will secrete penicillinase (just an enzyme that breaks down penicillin). Bacteria, however, are not sentient.

Responding to their environment doesn't equal sentience. Computers respond to their environment, are they sentient?

Plants, bacteria, computers, etc don't want anything.

They want to survive.

Computer were made by man to be intelligent. They don't want anything they aren't programmed to.
