It's chipped. Go to a Jag dealer or a Ford dealer. (Jag was owned by Ford at the time, correct?) Either will be able to order one and sync it with your security system.
It will cost $400 to $800. If you get additional keys, they're usually only about $200 so long as you get them at the same time.
(I've been through the whole getting keys thing.)
I have asked the Jag dealer and they told me $500 and I told them to forget it
You're not gonna get one cheaper - probably.
You REALLY should get one before you lose your only copy.
If they have to re-key it, it's gonna cost you more than the car is worth.
It kinda sucks. It's sorta mandated by law. Cars have to comply with anti-theft regulations because, well, car companies kept making cars that were easy to steal. So, the US (and other countries) require anti-theft standards.
It could be worse. You could be me. I pay to make sure there's always at least one spare - for some pretty exotic keys.
I hope I don't lose my key before I get a replacement
My key does not have a chip in it. It's just a different kind of cut
My key does not have anything special or electronic about it. Its just a round shaft that expands at the last half inch with blocks carved into it, it really should not be that difficult to reproduce. like these https://files.catbox.moe/amb4iu.jpg
