The only thing that 'eats' trees besides that would be a chipper - of which they do make some very huge ones.
A feller-buncher is a tool that grabs a tree, cuts it, strips the limbs off it, and sets it aside. Some are attached to excavators.

I don't allow feller-bunchers to operate on my land. The goal for my land is "TSI" and a feller-buncher is the wrong tool for that.
TSI is "Timber Stand Improvement". The goal is to leave the forest in better shape after you've been there. Basically, it's selective cutting with specific goals in mind. It also lets you skirt the replanting laws, but that's because it doesn't need replanting when done properly.
We've got a whole lot of logging regulations.
