The GT cars are about to take the track for the 12 minute trial for the race order
Yeah, they were red flagged (stopped) for a while. There was a major incident, involving a GT40 and Lotus something or other. It was millions of dollars worth of cars, but they'll live to fight another day. The owners and drivers know what they're getting into when they agree to participate. It's all good...
Some will be insured against total loss, quite likely. They're otherwise relatively easy to put back together again. Note the word 'relatively'.
Do companies offer race insurance against wrecks while doing these events?
Quite likely. You can buy race car insurance, so I assume these are covered to some extent. They're likely insured against total loss. If it's repairable, they don't have a claim. If it's completely lost, they'll get some agreed upon value for the car.
Quite likely...
I'm not positive. I am speculating based on what I know of the industry.
