You certainly have lived quite a life Mr Buddha. I hope when I get to your age I can say the same.
I have gathered great stories, if I can say anything about it. If I've done nothing else, I've been a true story collector, since my early years. I try to experience many things and I try to understand everything.
To do that, you gotta get your hands dirty. It takes work, and even some risk. But, you get to gather stories like penguins gather pebbles.
They say write about what you know. I also want to write my stories because those who have their stories written and copied are the ones that history remembers. In 600 years, I'm gonna be a "primary source" for historians. Then, my name lives on. It'd be pretty awesome. It's like an eternity of best days ever, except the being dead part.
The Scandinavian people left sagas. Indeed, Iceland still has the highest population of published authors. They write their history and events. Their names are remembered. I don't care about that. I care about the history being preserved.
You should read old Roman-era gravestones. They're like, "My name is Cervius Maximus, and I was a baker. I baked the best loaves of bread in all of Rome. I slept with many women, I laughed with many men. Also, I really fucking hate Mary and Fred, 'cause they're both cheating adulterous whores."
Well, slightly like that... I may be translating poorly, but that's about what some say.
They left a mark that we can look at today. My writing does that.
Well here is hoping you are remembered. I used to want that. I used to have dreams about changing the world and making a name for myself. Then I grew up. I learned that some men are just here to do small things. I know only my kids and their kids will remember me 100 years from now but that'll just have to be enough.
Oh, you have it a wee bit wrong. Just slightly...
I don't much care about "changing the world." Fuck that. I'm not changing anybody. If I change something, I'm responsible for it. Y'all are on your own. Don't look to me for answers. Nope...
But, I will leave a mark. I don't care if I have to blow off a side of a mountain. I'll leave a mark.
I've chosen to leave a smaller mark than blowing off the side of a mountain. I have friends willing to help, but they tell me that it's a stupid idea. Not that they're not willing to help, but that I'll probably get in a lot of trouble - even if I own the mountain. Horrible, really. It's mine. I should be able to blow it up if I want to.
However, they're not gonna let me and just doing it anyhow is a whole lot worse.
I need to eat dinner soon - but I'll be back, if you're around.
