That's what I figure. It'd mean more than me showing up in person. It's also not all that expensive. You can make it expensive, but it doesn't need to be.

The widow is supposed to call me tomorrow to let me know what's going on. I guess he had some life insurance, but that isn't all that quick. That can take forever to come through.

LOL This isn't even the first time I've done similar. I mentioned someone local passing away. Well, I covered their expenses and they're supposed to pay me back after probate. I don't actually care if they do - so long as they at least make an effort to do so. If they make an effort to do so, I'll likely decline the money. They can use it far better than I can.

It's not ego, it's just numbers.

For me, spending 5 figures is like many people spending $10, in proportion to our net worth. So, it's like $10 for me as compared to $10k for them. I'm not out a whole lot of money by helping friends and family.

So, I don't mind that much. As long as they at least offer to pay me back, I'm good.

Yeah, it should...

Dinner will be a smoked brisket. It will be delicious. The ladies are supposed to be making the sides - in a timely fashion.

I'm not opposed to an entire meal of meat!

I'm also sipping the wine pretty fierce today. It seemed like the thing to do. If I'm gonna be sad, I might as well be drunk and sad.
