Holy shit this is a great idea! Although, modern auctions are often digital.
It's time that people begin attacking server farms for this same reason.
Tragically, I have seen that in-person land auctions are a thing. At least as of 2019.
There's a total kike where I used to live who runs them (though he claims he is a Mason) and he just goes to property, sets up his soapbox there on an advertised date, and takes bids from people who show up. It is a complete farce, as the advertising is limited so that the land goes for a song to a buyer who has conspired with the kike.
What's really galling is that the local right-wing establishment totally shills for the guy, which leads to our guys getting hornswoggled.

It was a bit eye-opening for my neighbor, who spent decades as a Mason, to find out that he'd been gypped by this guy, who made a big show about how he too was a Mason.
I thought that the rule of Masonry was that it was run by the Jews, but Jews were not allowed to be members, in order to keep the wool over the eyes of the goyim?
This guy totally looks like a kike,but advertises himself as a hardcore Mason, and has also massively jewed a fellow Mason in a land deal gone spectacularly bad.
All it would take is for someone to fire shots at the crowd every once in a while, and he'll never hold an auction ever again.
The way his scheme works is that there never really is a crowd. He always has only a handful of buyers on site, and if there is any crowd beyond them then it is just curious neighbors who wander over to see what is going on.
It sure seems like he always has one buyer who has conspired with him to buy the property in advance, as the other "bidders" never raise the price very high and the property always goes for a tiny fraction of what the property tax evaluations say that it is worth.
But this clown, aided the local right-wingers who shill him hard, has con-man charisma and manages to make the people he gyps feel like they're getting a great deal...until they find that they've been swindled.
It would not surprise me in the slightest to see this guy either wind up in jail for flagrant corruption, or adorning a lamp post, because he has made himself no shortage of enemies.

In Ireland a farmer was recently kicked off his farm: Bank sold his debt to a vulture fund and they started (quasi-legally) repossessing it by sending in security and removing him by force.
A few nights later the security occupying the farm was attacked and their vehicles were burned out. They left and haven't been back.
Sounds like the way The Grapes of Wrath should have ended.
As I recall, the novel mentions that some farmers stayed and fought, but they were ineffective and the protagonists did not stay and fight.
While written by a jew, Grapes of Wrath was the best book I was forced to read in high school. I loved that book.
