Gave it some some water and crushed up saltines, it does not seem interested in either.

I think it has a broken wing and it is quite frightened.

I think I'll give it until tomorrow, see if it ate any of the crackers or drank any water, and if it hasn't, I'll kill it quickly.

We helped a couple of baby pigeons. We got them eating bird seed ground up with water in a mortar and pestle with an eye dropper and then when the wildlife place opened dropped them off with them. The wildlife rescue out here doesn't have any issues taking pigeons or sparrows and is located in an industrial part of Tempe/Phoenix. I gave them a donation for taking them and donate every once in a while. If they were closer, I would volunteer to clean up the poop and feed them. I would assume Philly has some kind of rescue.

Found them https://www.phillywildlife.org/ . Dunno if they are too far for you, though. Probably a bit of a hike. I lived in West Chester for a bit and felt heading into Philly was far and it looks like about that distance out, past King of Prussia. When they are open, give them a call, they would definitely give you a quick rundown on caring for him.

This should help. An eye dropper is very useful for something like this and grinding up some seed if you can get some. Anything to get a little water and food in. Even if it is hurt it should feel a bit better.

Careful when handling though to not cause more harm.

Keep it warm. Thanks for caring

I don't know where to keep it warm or keep it cool. It's 95 degrees in Philly right now.

Thanks for caring enough to try saving it. I did a hummingbird rescue 15 years ago after inadvertently destroying their nest when I pruned the limbs on our tulip poplar. Saved one of two babies. It was Father's Day - made me feel bad.

Salt free saltines? Salt won't be doing this young bird any favors.

Try an eye dropper with water or liquefied food. Darkness from a towel or cloth over the box should calm it. It looks a beat up, missing feathers. Could have internal injuries too.

if you are successful hand feeding it, it will build a bit of trust. Good luck.

Looked up Sparrow diets...

Sparrows in the wild primarily eat a variety of seeds and grains, including: Grass seeds: Such as ragweed and crabgrass. 1 Insects: Including beetles, caterpillars, and aphids. 1 Fruits and berries: They consume berries when available. 1 Other plant materials: They may also eat leaves and flowers. 1

Overall, sparrows are omnivores and have a diverse diet that allows them to thrive in various environments. 2

Thank you for showing this tiny creature kindness. If he doesn’t make it, at least his last memories will be of you trying to help him and keeping him safe.

Is it carnivorous? Should you be feeding it worms?

It is a sparrow, I think they eat pretty much anything

You're probably going to have to use an eye dropper to get it to drink for the first couple days. Just put a couple drops on the side of its beak it will instinctually drink once the water starts to seep into it's mouth. As far as food goes just go get some leaf worms from the store. It will eat when it's hungry. Sometimes they won't eat or drink for a couple days because of all the stress. Give it a little bit bigger of a box and don't disturb it unless feeding or watering. Adult wild birds and fledglings (which is what you have) are a lot harder to care for than nestlings. They don't trust you and never will. Give it what it needs and leave it to heal. Shouldn't take too long. About a week and it should be able to fly again. Good luck and props for taking the time to care.

Edit: After looking at your other post and seeing that the bird is a fledgling it might not be injured at all. Just not good at flying yet. And the heat probably isn't helping. Same as the injury though, about a week and it will be airborne.

found one a couple of weeks ago. Poor fella choked on a hair because muh worms and I was afraid to pull it out and do more harm so I gave it to a pet doctor.

You better not do the same to this one as you did to the last. I've got my eye on you. Chirp!
