If I didn't already know what it was, I would have no fucking idea what I was buying.

Look at the different bottle's labeling next time you go buy some. It doesn't even fucking say "detergent." If it does, it's in the tiniest fucking font they can find.

It’s all synthetic petrochemical crap. People wonder why they have skin issues like eczema or psoriasis or breathing issues...

I don't have any issues with the crap; but, what do you use?

[–] 1 pt

Zote.

Does look like a good deal, or too expensive? I figured bulk would be a lot cheaper than a few bricks at a time. Never heard of this before, so I don't know what it costs generally.

1:1:1 ratio. Washing soda, borax (20mule team), grated soap (ivory, zote, etc)

Mix very well. I use 5gal bucket w cement mixer and mask because it does make a small cloud.

This amount lasts us ~2 years. 8 to 12 loads laundry per week.

Use 1tbsp or more depending water hardness and how dirty clothes are.

Laundry detergent.

[–] 2 pts

No. That is laundry soap. Laundry detergent is a detergent. Soaps and detergents are not the same thing.

[–] 2 pts

True. Detergents are synthetic.

I posted how to make an alternative to laundry detergent.

Yes. We make a liquid from zote, borax, and washing powder. We use it in a HE washer. Twice a month I run a cycle using dawn detergent to breakdown residue left by the “soap”.

Great idea, thanks for the response.

I usually get the no dye no scent stuff and use it sparingly. Laundry detergent still has a lot of fillers in it (less than years ago,) so you don't need anywhere the amount the bottle says. If your clothes are really dirty, like you work in the garage all day, maybe. But for most, a couple tablespoons of detergent work well enough.

Always use liquid, it doesn't have to dissolve in the water.

If you don't see "soap" on the label, it's detergent. Few people actually use soap anymore.

Whole Foods organic laundry soap

What I want to know is why every women's shampoo bottle advertises food.

They've started doing it with men's shit, too. Food appeals to everyone, I guess it works. Still don't know who would want to smell like "black pepper & cucumber".
