This makes text messaging unreliable at best. I also wonder if certain phrases are also being blocked?

The other interesting aspect of this is WhatsApp seems to allow the text messages that T-Mobile is blocking. That seems odd especially since FakeBook owns WhatsApp.

They've been doing that for a long time. I still have a StatusNet instance under my control, it has the ability to send SMS via email when someone replies or make a post, and you're following them. A couple of years ago, all of those started to fail silently to t-mobile numbers.

Juggled the code a little to make it send to pushover instead, and it's worked like a charm for the last two years.

My mom and I noticed it during the first lock down. She started putting extra letters in links and telling em which to take out or just sending an email.

Yes. They've always been a bit picky about what gets sent, but it's become useless lately.

A lot of that is due to the fact that email and it's cousins have become weaponized with spam. It's easier to just turn it off than to fight the rising tide.

Wait until you go to cancel your T-Mobile and they send you to an indian call center that's so fucking cheap you can hear roosters and chickens in the background.

I used to get mass text messages until I started replying all with spicy memes. I don't get any anymore...

Usually just graphic death pics of Indians over here. What’s your go-to?

I remember this happening

Interesting. My cousin and I always have trouble connecting

Can you give us an example of a URL that is being blocked? I've heard of this happening many times, but no one ever gives examples of URLs that are blocked so we can't test them ourselves. That seems suspicious since every time I ask for some examples the OP goes silent on me.

The gsm messaging protocol does not have built into the spec read receipts or for the verification of successful delivery of text messages to the handset.

Just saying: it’s easy to sinkhole your stuff.

Perhaps, but if I message to another T-Mobile customer, I get notified my message was delivered and subsequently read.

If you’re using an iPhone, that’s the iMessage/APN protocol, which is not sms (and supposed to be encrypted from T-mobile’s point of view). I would be interested to hear if this indeed is the case. What application are you using?

I use stock Android and use the standard SMS app.
