I see, but once they had lost power and the bridge was a threat they should have been brought down. All seems so ridiculous.

It all happened really fast, plus there are a lot of them up there. I would not be surprised if some did start making their way down when they saw what was happening, but not enough time for everyone to get down.

They were harnessed as well, so it was probably a split second decision. If you take off the harness you fall if you haven't gotten down. So they stayed attached and were beaten and crushed by the masts. Scary.
