To the best of my understanding this is a pilot scheme in South Australia meant to allow returned travelers the choice (for now) of quarantining at home rather than quarantining in a 'facility' under constant security as is the case now. So not as bad as it sounds, except for slippery slope, boiling frog scenario etc. In future they might make it their de-facto system for 'supervised' quarantine cases rather than doing hotel quarantine, it's cheaper than ankle bracelets.

On the other hand, for fucks sake, PLEASE keep spreading this story EVERYWHERE with the worst possible interpretation, it's so refreshing watching government PR people squirm.

Once you let them do it, it will never stop.

Since when do tyrannical politicians give back rights and give up their power? It has to be taken from them.

Sulla was appointed dictator for life but retired after only a year and returned power to the senate. That was about 2,100 years ago and people still talk about it. So sometimes they’ll give up power, but it’s so rare those that do so are remembered for millennia.

Not as bad? "You have to spy on yourself" is no different from a gulag.

Well, it sounds like the entire population is being tortured by not daring to take a nap for longer than 15 minutes at a time. Instead it's being served up as a "lesser of 2 evils" to people already being subjected to state detention. That's what I meant by "not as bad as it sounds," not diminishing where this leads to, but many sheep on Reddit probably don't see that far ahead.
