Meh, the "coal powered car" argument is shortsighted.

Could be solar powered. Could be hydro powered. Could be nucular powered. Could be hamster on a wheel powered.

A gas vehicle is always gas powered and there's nothing you can ever do to change the energy source you are dependent on.

I really don't give a fuck about the "eco" argument. But, you can't argue against having options when gas prices are $5.00 a gallon and all you need to do is install a few solar panels on your roof to bypass the Jew at the gas station.

There are a thousand ways I can generate my own electricity in my back yard. But, I'm fucked if I need to make my own gasoline. That requires 5 acres of sunflowers and a lot of equipment.

You think they won’t be taxing electric like they tax gas?

Sure. But that's a different problem all together. I'm just arguing OP's specific argument is retarded. There are plenty of other real arguments.

How are they going to tax electricity I make in my backyard?

They're gonna put a meter on it.

By your mileage possibly.

This. I bought an electric push mower and weed eater recently. I don't care what anybody says, I used to make fun of them too, but they're pretty fuckin sweet. Just pop in the battery and go. Cut all the grass on one charge and pop the battery back in the charger for next week. I don't have to deal with yanking the damn cord over and over trying to figure out why it won't start. No filters, no oil, no mechanical issues to deal with whatsoever. And they're super quiet. Honestly makes me really want electric vehicles too.

I picked up an electric push mower on clearance this past winter and im fucking impressed with it. I thought it was going to be junk honestly, but its solid.

When I was a kid, for whatever reason, I was "The lawn mower kid". None of my other siblings ever had to mow the lawn. It was always fucking me who had to do it. Twice a week. And it wasn't just my parent's house. I had to mow my grandparent's yard too.

So, yeah, I have a LOT of experience with 2 stoke engines. Fixing the damn mower is part of the job. Then you have oil/fuel mixtures. A tank of gas only covers 1/2 a lawn, so you are constantly filling it up with gas. Cleaning out the carburetor.

Then you have to trim everything with the weed eater.

Fuck that shit!

Now I have an electric setup. There's pretty much no maintenance.

I'm with you bro. It's night and day.

your "option" of an electric car (yes im aware that this applies to all modern combustible cars as well), means that you are plugged into the internet of things and once they introduce social credit score here, they will be able to turn off your car for not meeting the requirements. maybe they find out you post on poal and they dont like that..... so be careful what you wish for.

there is a reason they are pushing for electric cars, and we all know it's not the environment.....

See, that's a good concern. It's a real concern. Maybe run with that argument instead of "Muh energy source!".

Too abstract for most EV types to see that. The current EV drivers know they are using coal.

Not to mention that even with California's insane electricity prices the cost per mile to fuel an electric car charging at your home from the grid is somewhere around $0.0325. For a typical sedan that's equivalent to paying $0.98 per gallon for gasoline. Use your own electricity rates and mpg to plug in to this formula:

[MPG of your current car] * [Electric rate per kWh]/4 = gas price equivalent

This only applies to cars, not trucks and heavy vehicles.

Or you could just use biodiesel and help your local McDonald's dispose of their spent vegetable oil.

I tinkered around with biodiesel for a while. It's really not worth the trouble. If you value your time you'll be spending a lot more than $5.00 / gallon.

Also, you can't just grab used oil from restaurants. The pig farmers have a monopoly on the used oil market.
