People who were alive in the 1980's know it was the Walton family of Walmart fame which demanded its suppliers begin to make things in China or be removed from Walmart stores. This was to increase Wal-Mart's profit margins. Walmart really started the commoditization of manufacturing American goods on China.

Demand came from consumers. When confronted with the same good but for cheaper they went with chine made.
Yeah early Chinese products sucked but so did consumer intelligence

Sorry but you are wrong. There were numerous stories about this from manufacturers in the 1999's. Walmart told them manufacture in China or else
Walmart is not the entirety of goods stores worldwide. Just a tiny fraction in fact. Yet every nation lost manufacturing to China.
The reasons were economic and predictactable.
