Yeah early Chinese products sucked but so did consumer intelligence

Sorry but you are wrong. There were numerous stories about this from manufacturers in the 1999's. Walmart told them manufacture in China or else
Walmart is not the entirety of goods stores worldwide. Just a tiny fraction in fact. Yet every nation lost manufacturing to China.
The reasons were economic and predictactable.
Walmart was a huge percentage of retail in the usa in the 1990's. They could bankrupt companies. Having them shift production to China created the manufacturing infrastructure that later took manufacturing away from other nations. Before Walmarts actions China was where junk was made.
