If I hadn't saved hard in my 20's and 30's I would never have had enough for a down payment on a house, and now I have enough money that if I were to lose my job I could "coast" on savings for 4 years. If things were still bad after that I could sell my house and walk away with $450,000. I never even worry about an emergency expense for a moment. I don't have any money worries to speak of. That, in my mind, is rich.
