I initially like the books, but around The Lords of Chaos or whatever book it was, I had to stop. The women were too annoying and controlling, got power too easy and never had any actual comeuppance at that point. Even when the princess pulled a legendary heroine from the cycle of reincarnation into the real world and literally changed it so she would never live with her also reincarnating husband ever again in eternity and the Heroine just goes "well, alright then, guess I'm gonna be your bodyguard" I gave up. The Male-Ran Church being moustache twirling Evil AND misogynist was just eye rolling. And that's just a few things that led to me giving up on the books.
Make no mistake, they're wonderfully written and paint a world quite well. But that world is female empowerment out the ass and I don't couldn't stand it after a point.
But yes, fuck Amazon for everything they have ever done.
So far I feel the two genders are handled well. The women are shown as capable and able to lead, but it isn't done by making the men look stupid.
The women are always portrayed as feminine and if one isn't such as Min, it is describe as highly unusual, I like that. I have read that some dislike the books because of this and how the women are often easy to swoon over the male characters. I see that side as well.
It's awesome how none seem to trust the aes sedai, be wary of women! lol
I do get the female empowerment though. I can see it, but it isn't to the point that it is bothering me. I'll have to wait and see if it becomes annoying to where I stop with the series. Thanks for the spoiler warning, I'm going to leave that unread for now.
Spoilers are spoiled, but read at your own risk.
Eh, the women get way too fucking uppity real quick and act like the men are all retarded and need to be treated like children, while the Men are trying to keep themselves afloat because holy fuck does the world have it out for them. The women characters treat the men like they have it easy and are goofing off despite the fact that one's trying to keep his sanity while dodging the women who would kill/enslave/lobotomize him, the other has to gather and lead an army with all the logistics and stress thereof.
Like I said, it just got to the point where I gave up. I couldn't handle it anymore. It just kept building and building and finally I just put the book down and never picked it back up. Doesn't help that I remember reading somewhere that Robert Jordan thought that this is exactly how male/female dynamics should go, with the woman being dominant, controlling harridans and men subservient to them.
