Simple. Make deviled eggs, but top the eggs with chunks of the fried ring bologna. Make it crispy so the texture complements the egg.

I'm sure they'd dig it but I don't like cold egg

  • especially this time of year when good tomatoes are available.

This is good as skewers too (better for parties imo). Fresh basil and mozzarella along with grape or cherry tomatoes. Top them with a balsamic vinegar reduction. You can make the glaze or possibly find it at a higher end grocery store.

Rueben dip: corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, thousand island dressing, cream cheese (not part of the sandwich, but helps with creaminess). Crockpot --> bread bowl.

You could fry up some of that bologna and add it to the mix?

Other options: stuffed mushrooms or jalapenos, obviously with some sort of bologna mash inside.

Hog testicles, they are quite yummy with grey poupon

Crazy Idea: Fully cook the ring bologna, slice it for toothpick servings, sprinkle with grated cheese, then BROIL it for a moment.   Is it possible to slice a ring on a diagonal, in both directions, to get diamond-shaped servings? That would look downright Savage!

slice on a diagonal

Or put a skewer through the middle and do a spiral cut before frying or otherwise cooking. Not sure if you've seen or done this with hotdogs, but the added surface area is a plus.

Use a bologna with TEXTURE, not fine-grained. Only SAVORY and SMOKY flavors in the seasoning and embellishments. Make it Barbarian and Manly. Sliced, roasted carrots, peppers, pea pods.

Dang, I think the menu is changing for tonight ... <grin>

One other idea came to mind, though it's labor intensive: pretzel "hot dog" bites. I'm not sure how exactly to work with this protein, but if it's fully cooked already, wrap 5-8cm chunks in pretzel dough and then bake for a few minutes.

Yep. Was just thinking pretzel as well. And pepper jack cheese

had ring bologna my whole life and nothing beats it just sliced up with a variety of cheeses and mustards.

orrr if you really wanted to incorporate it I'd just make a charcuterie board but make sure ring bologna is part of it. i prefer it cold

Is it good fried?

[–] 0 pt

i mean what isn't good fried?

it's ok for me, but I like it cold. maybe go half and half?

You could make little skewers with it. Add different cheeses and pickles perhaps (maybe jalapenos)? Serve with mustards.

This sounds good. Never fried ring bologna. I'm thinking something like that, or kebab. Make some sort of mustard pan sauce

[–] 0 pt

I was thinking cold like on a relish tray, but a kebab does sound good.

Take ur ring bologna and make “Central PA Reuben sliders:” potato slider rolls, Cooper cheese, bologna served with choice of cream slaw or dijionaise. I’ve done it as a cold sandwich, but could be warm fried bologna

Well, I've come up with a pan mustard sauce idea, but doubt I'll have time to make it with work
