That's the job of the subs mods. Not Putt. He seriously stepped out of bounds on this one. He maintains the site and maintains "free speech". If a sub is being disrupted by a user, the mods have the duty to prune them. If putt is going to begin culling people for spam, then Voat is no longer a free speech platform
It is a system sub, so Putt is the mod.
Fine, so appoint a few folks as mods of system subs. Putt himself, as site maintainer, should never have any say in bans unless its strictly for legal reasons. If Voat is truly free speech, then Justin has to remain 100% neutral
My comment was mainly to keep the facts straight. I'm still considering the situation.
Your idea may well work, but I would add that when the new voting feature is implemented (Soon™), let the users decide who gets to mod these.
Which the whole point of the system subs was to have a free for all around topics. The idea is that you could get booted from a community but you couldn't get booted from discussing a topic.
Plus even in community subverses the standard is it must be in the rules before a mod acts unless it's soapbox. We have literally outed mods for just as much.
I ran a deepfakes subverse for a bit (sfw, I wanted more meme-fakes), and I had people spamming me saying "ha ha, you can't do anything. Mods can't ban for anything here." Then aged posts something game related to gaming and he gets banned.. from a system subverse... who's whole point is to be a free for all after the whole issue in /v/science. Like system is supposed to be /v/whatever with a topic.
Massive selective logic is happening or all of these users were never around for when system subverses were created and they don't get the concept.
Good points. This is indeed a situation that is complex, and affects more than Voat. All of these related sites have these issues. I know of a user booted from Phuks recently for an erroneous reason, yet due to their small population and possibly retaliation, no one spoke up. It will be interesting to see how it works out.
edit: Just read your post on V. You offer a little more discussion there, which helps.
