I know fuck all about electronics but my BIL has been in IT his entire life. He's somehow kept his wife's (My sister) MacBook alive for about 12 years.

I hate apple too. I just can't comprehend how she's using the same laptop. To top it off, he's an android/windows/Linux guy.

I'm not even arguing anything. Just trying to figure out how that worked out considering the trash she insists on buying.

Those were the early laptops that were easily serviceable. Not anymore. Especially after Jobs died.

My iMac is a 2011 model. I was gifted an iPhone 5 and an iPod touch. I can't use either because of this fucking activation lock.

The iPhone 5 only supported iOS 10. That device is pretty much useless for anything other than phone calls, and you'd be better off spending the $50 to buy a cheap Nokia candybar if that's what you want to do.

The last iPod Touch was the 7th, and those are getting really long in the tooth as well.

I have much newer stuff. They were both free and iv'e never had anything that runs iOS before so I just wanted to mess around with them really. I figured the iPod could stay in the car as an MP3 player or dash-cam in my truck.

Eventually they’ll stop being updatable with the software and be useless.

Certain older models of macbook were paragons of longevity and serviceability. They used to be worth the money you paid because you could probably guarantee it was going to outlast anything else you could get, or at least give you 10 years of dependable service.

Except certain Lenovo devices. I still have two Lenovo 3000 N200 devices that are going strong. They're going on 15 this year.
