I'm going to church tomorrow. THere is a church at the bottom of the hill, it's an episcopal church. I have been to stubborn and pragmatic to go back to church after telling everyone I was an Atheist. It seems that all my heros in life believe in Jesus, and I'm sick of being associated with the liberals/leftist that are immoral atheist and not the atheism but how they pervert it. I've been thinking about this for about a week off and on and realized that I act like church person the way I live my life without the god stuff included, super honest, friendly, helpful, willing to help a person at the drop of a hat. I just think I should give it a shot since it's been over 45 years since I last went. Any thoughts here?

Sounds like a good idea to me.

That's the Holy Spirit working within you; man cannot "choose" to believe, he simply stops fighting the Spirit.

Maybe that's it. I have been kind of thinking about it and just dismissing it for months and I finally decided to give it a shot again to see if that is what's missing.

I don't think I'll be going to church much but I did some praying and prayed for good things to day for people and didn't wish harm but justice for the ones that are committing harm to our country and to kids and the ones that lie and steal be dealt with. I hope this helps. I did not wish for anything for myself personally since that would be greedy in my eyes but for others. I figure if he wants me to have more he'll make sure I'll have opportunities to make it in an honest manner. Now I have to I found be good and not wish harm onto others even the liberals in California which is a bummer but he'll take care of that in time.

One thing that struck me when learning about prayer, is that it can help to add "If it be Your will" to any of your petitions - helps center the conversation without you having to worry if you're "saying the right things".

I did wish that I would love if he could help the president and his loyal followers could find the evil in the country and the world and expose it and bring them to justice. I figured if he found the prayer good he might decide to grant it. I didn't expect him to do everything but if he decided the prayer was a good and holy one he would consider granting it. Asking for stuff is greedy though I did ask for him to show me how to find my calling in life so I could use my life skills to make a living that was a one that would help out people or someone greatly in need. I figure if I am asking humble stuff in my prayers they would be considered on a higher basis of either granting or not. I also prayed for my family and friends and neighbors health and happiness.

I consider myself a cultural Christian rather than a believing/religious Christian. I find that is a good form of atheism. Humanism is like that in some ways though I think humanists tend to have a grudge of sorts against Christianity. I prefer to appreciate Christianity for what it has done for the West even though I don't fully believe it.

From my actions and attitude I think that has been what I have been doing with the cultural christian which I didn't know was a thing but that is how I am now but I think I want to do more maybe voluteer for stuff with the poor or better the elderly.

Read the red letter edition of the New testament. Just the red letters. You'll realize that organized churches are Paulist that preach the words of Jesus (red letters), but follow the words of Paul.

Can you explain that more, I have no idea what you're referring to? remember I've been an atheist most of my life so be as descriptive as you can please.

If I'm not mistaken, Jesus says not to fall into the trap of listening to people preach about religion. Religion is something you carry with you, within you, within your own "temple," no church required.

Church can be good. It's just hard to find those that aren't ruined by a greedy person at the head of them. Man tends to ruin things. The more men you get involved, the more likelihood of ruination.

I like community, and church is supposed to be the place to find it. I hope for you, that this church is a good one. Good luck! But dont feel defeated if it's not. Carry on being a good person.

It's not the church but the way it ran the sunday mass, to much singing and stuff and not enough information and advise from the pulpit. I liked the other parishioners they were so nice and helpful.

I got out of church kind of disappointed in the experience. I then thought a bit and I was going to read the bible online but I asked my aunt who's a chatholic what I should do. She said starting with the proverbs would be a nice start. I read up to 30 and stopped. I then realized I have a lot of good stuff with my behavior that will help me move forward in life and learn wisdom more effectively. I only have to learn to keep my mouth shut is the thing I learned. Being calm and taking criticism and learning from it and my mistakes and controlling my greed and even were my assets and being honest but my mouth was a huge one I have to learn to STFU at times.

Jesus Christ, man. If you're going to get religiond, don't become a fucking Christcuck.

You can recognize the value of religion without subscribing to one of the jew controlled ones.

No I can't be the over the top Jesus nut but I think it might introduce me to people that I can make my life better and help me do that for myself.

As far as I can tell, most of the useful men only go on Christmas and Easter.

Can't hurt to go explore. Maybe you might also gain something from learning about pre-christian myths (), as these are not dogmatized and thus have little standing to require you to take everything presented as literal fact (which may be a sore spot for one who considers themselves an atheist). Of course, Christianity has the benefit of community. Then again, there's no saying you can't do both... well, except Christianity and the whole 'no idols' thing.
