It was my rest day yesterday. All I did was take my dog for 2 walks. No working out, nobody dropped a plate on my foot, I didn't even stub my toe. I woke up today feeling like I broke my big toe and can't really put weight on it. I won't be doing any squats for a while and will have to modify everything else where I needed to have some weight on my toes. Girlie push-ups are in my immediate future all because in one's mid 40s it is possible to get injured sleeping somehow.

get injured sleeping somehow.

Let me guess, you didn't check under your bed for jews before going to sleep?

I have deawers under my bed, I don't think they could fit in there with their noses.

I agree with others. Wait until the 60's when it's definitely more shits than giggles! 😄

It's sounding like it is more shits than giggles.

[–] 1 pt

More shits, but still plenty of giggles. Just have to accept and adapt to the aging process.

Can't wait to see what the 80's bring, if I live until then, that is. 😉

The body ages and the psychology does not. Just wait until your in your 60's and want to roller blade but worry about breaking bones.

I met a guy in his late 80s who was roller skiing (cross country skiis with basically roller blade wheels on the bottom). He was just going around a paved path, but he could keep up to me on a bike, and was able to talk while keeping that pace. He told me how great it is for zero impact on the knees but still gives great cardio.

Now that sounds interesting!

You're quite literally right.

Used to be I'd' get up, crap and shower, then eat and drink a gallon of tea and water and never worry about it. Now? I wonder where the next rest stop is on the highway.

Also needing to stop drinking fluids by 8:00 p.m. or so just so I don't need to wake up several times in middle of the night to piss.

The worse part for me (mid 40s) isn't the injuries, it's the recovery. It takes for-fucking-ever to recover from anything now. I slipped on the ice a couple of years ago, bruised a rib and was essentially out of commission for 2 weeks and wasn't back to 100% for about four months.

[–] 1 pt

I feel you on that one. I used to break something and just go on with life as normal, and was able to ignore to ignore the pain and still recover. Now I have to be careful like a little bitch, and tend to it, because if I'm not careful and re-injure it, it could take half a year to get back to 100%.

I slipped and landed right on my knee eariler this year. Thought I broke it for a min and got lucky. But I slip on ice a few years ago and landed flat on my back and that took several weeks to recover from. Damn dog was laughing at me. He's walking around me "problem? Sucks having just two legs, huh?"

Observations and experiences from someone a bit further down the road: Yep, injuries take more time and effort for full recovery. However diet and exercise are a moveable feast and adaptation is the hallmark of a disciplined mind. Sounds like you're on a solid dietary track. Kudos! If you imbibe in booze, you may wanna consider putting a permanent cork in that jug. It's all oak barrel aged poison and wreaks metabolic havoc and hell. On my own journey, I found that my pursuits of martial skull bangery and the accompanying surgeries were antithetical to my goal of active longevity, so the only mat I now find myself sweating on is a yoga mat. Pivoting to functional fitness pursuits, dialed in diet, prioritizing maintenance recovery (massage, sauna, sleep, fasts) seem to be keeping the test up, resting heart rate down and fitting the 6th decade of life bill a bit better than goin' hard and heavy.

Eat more cheese, lmao.

I'm allergic to dairy thanks to a vaccine I got more than 10 years ago. That was a good thing though, it woke me up to the dangers of vaccines and was a HUGE reason that I didn't get the COVD jab.

Sorry to hear that, but fuck you. Don’t tell me this. I’m never getting older!

I thought the same way, still do. It comes one day seemingly out if nowhere.

It’s creeping in. The hair is looking more “distinguished” than it used to when it was all brown, but at least it’s still all there.

Running injuries are taking longer to recover from too.. fuck.

Oh those suck. I wish someone had told me about running on the balls of my feet instead of the heels back when I was a teenager.

I'm older than you and I used to wake up with mysterious sleep injuries most of the time. I quit eating sugar and I rarely wake up with any of these kinds of problems anymore. Sugar does really bad things to you and you will be surprised to discover just how many things like this seem to be caused by eating it. I was headed towards having some pretty bad arthritis in my hands but I stopped and partially reversed that by cutting out the jewish sugar poison. That move has returned my quality of life and I wish I had done it sooner.

[–] 1 pt

Thanks for the heads up. The only sugars I get are from the off piece of fruit, but it is worth cutting even that out to see if it helps at all.

I've got about 20 years on you and haven't woken up out of joint yet. My left shoulder has been letting me know its there though, I'm a side sleeper and am usually on my left side. That shoulder hasn't been liking it over the past couple weeks. I think I had too much twist or pressure on it one night. Seems to be getting better.

What kind of bed do you have?

[–] 1 pt

Lol! I've been sleeping on a wing back sofa most nights since I became single. I eventually fall asleep watching YT or old movies on OTA tv. I did put a layer of plywood under the cushons to firm it up. I have 3 beds but the sofa is the only thing with a tv in the room.

[–] 1 pt

Good God, man, put a tv where a bed is!

[–] 0 pt

I have thought ab putting plywood down to firm my couch up...did it work?

[–] 0 pt

Try reading a good book on the bed to fall asleep there and see if you wake up feeling better.
